Standard 4: Program Administration
The school library media center should be the center of the school. In order for it to be effective, the library media program should support the mission of the school and operate according to the principles of best practice in library science and program administration. Through my library courses I have developed the understanding of managing information resources, program resources and strategic planning. The standard will be met through the projects described below.
Cataloging Policy
Cataloging Policy:
Devloping a cataloging policy is essential for aligning school and library goals. As part of the Cataloging for the School Library Media Specialist course, I created a Cataloging policy for a high school library. This policy was developed with my current high school in mind. The circulation and collection development was student-centered to provide current and reliable resources for students. In addition to resources, the policy provides instruction on how to find quality resources and materials, proper use of print materials and improving their lives by becoming life-long learners.
Organization and Administration of School Library Programs
Game Station Library Program and Flyer.
As a part of my school media center class, I developed a day long library program to be implimented in a high school library. The game station library program features stations within the library to allow for student cooperation, socialization and literacy skills. The focus of the program was encouraging students to interact and play board games with one another. Making the library enviroment fun, may encourage students to feel more comfortable in this setting and allow for more use of the library facilities in the future. The flyer was used to invite and visually encourage students to be a part of the library program. Planning and evaluation of the program play a part in the success of this program and for future program development.
Practicum:
Was completed in the fall of 2010. As part of my practicum, I designed curriculum and set up the LMS for new technology classes that will be held in the high school library. These classes focus on the digital learner and developing skills to use for a life-time with technology.
