Standard 2: Teaching and Learning
Developing instruction that engages student's interests, passions and needs that drive their learning is vital to meet the standard of teaching and learning. When partnering with teachers, it is important to develop and deliver integrated information skills curriculum. The following projects give examples of how the teaching and learning standards have been met.
Information Literacy Project:
Where do I go from here? WebQuest
As a part of the Instructional applications for the Internet course, we were to design a web-based site that students could use for educational purposes. Students can use this WebQuest for informational resources and search strategies to enhance information literacy skills. The WebQuest also served as a source to show the effectiveness of teaching skills and to display our knowledge of instructional techniques using the internet. By creating a WebQuest, it was used as a springboard in designing an instructional website.
Instructional Website:
College Plan
As part of my ITEC class we were required to develop an instructional website. To build upon the theme of college planning as used in my WebQuest, I created an educational site focusing on Juniors and Seniors in High School. This site was developed to create an awareness of the differences between high school and college, prepare students for their new college life and help them choose a college that fits their needs. By using technology, students can form a virtual plan, complete applications, use interactive sites and gain skills necessary to be successful in college.
Pathfinder:
Pathfinder:Choosing a College.
This pathfinder was developed for high school students to use to easily find reliable information for college planning. A pathfinder can help students develop information literacy skills and a way for students to develop the use of information resources and search strategies. A pathfinder is also a great resource for teachers to use to find quality information quickly and in one place.
Instructional Design Unit:
Finding and Adding Media to Projects:
The instructional design unit that I was involved with in my ITEC class involved a group project. This project was web-based so that we could use it for future reference to help in our teaching endevours. The object of this project was to encourage and explain the process by which media can be added to a variety of projects. By using an instructional design, teachers can determine learning styles and developmental levels of the students through the pre and post testing involved. Ongoing students assessment can take place during this instructional tool.
College Planning Podcast Video:
By creating a podcast for a classroom setting, different types of learning styles will be reached through instruction. This podcast is actually a vodcast as it contains a video presentation of pictures to help keep the students engaged in the information that is being presented. College planning is the focus of the video and it was developed to be used as a teaching tool for a substitute teacher in the classroom. Actively engaging students and focusing on different learning styles through media types and instruction, provide a larger teaching/learning environment.
